Soon, then. [he'll start as soon as they're in water-world] I'll be in touch.

[and with that he turns on his heel and makes for the door, hoping to get the fuck out of there before he actually succumbs to the atmosphere. Some other time, Sorrow.]

( She did not know that. It's so very unlike humanity, where curiosity is essential for them to grow. Even when the Fal'Cie produced their food, their sunlight, their water, humans still had the drive to learn, to explore. To make something of the world.

If people hadn't been like that, she wonders how things would have progressed.

They'd still be on Cocoon, she would never have become a l'Cie. The Sanctum would still be in total control of everything, ensuring people believed that association with Pulse was treason.

But she supposes you have less need for curiosity if you can create just about anything with magic.
)

It's kinda sad, that so much was forgotten.

( And now the only beings who remember any of it are the eight gods of this city. )

Hey Hope said you're back in town. Cool nice work getting him and all.
Any idea why the Door screwed up this bad? Figured I'd just ask you since you're the resident expert and all.

Yeah I get that but was this outcome a known risk when you chose to use the Door for the move? And are you still gonna use the Door to move the city next time?
completelycrazy: doesn't seem to be working (awk • our death ray)

[personal profile] completelycrazy 2019-01-15 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm. Not very smart to be playing around with it with so much at stake but lbr I'm not really in any position to criticize. Lol.
Uhhhh that mishap isn't ringing a bell so I'm gonna guess it was before my time. Still!
Not that I'm like advocating this but wouldnt some of us dying be better than scattering you and your buddies into the wind?
Actually scratch that. In a more direct question how confident are you that you'll be able to fix this issue?

Got a question.

The Door seems to bring in people who already know each other. That intentional?

( It's been a point of curiosity for a while, now, something she keeps noticing but placing aside in favour of everything else Hadriel throws at them. But now she's too curious to ignore. )

So you're saying the Door doesn't have a recharge period like Fear does? Ok those are some legitimate pros for using the Door over Fear.
Especially if it gets us out of Fear's crappy events. Or the thing you just mentioned. Glad I missed out on that one yikes.
How long is it gonna take you to resolve the issue? Is that something I could help with?

People we have emotional attachments to. ( Whether positive or negative, that really seems to be what it boils down to. It's got to be helpful to the gods to have the people who make each of them most emotional turning up.

It's interesting, really. As a tool to get home, sure, but even beyond that. It's a completely alien being of power, something that her home world could never even conceive. She wonders what Dagny would make of it, with all her dedication to non-human biology and everything she taught Kate about their kind's abilities, their construction. She wonders even more what Marc would do if he saw it—

Well, no. It's not really wondering. She knows Marc would want to take it apart and discover how it works even more than she does.
)

Do we all have emotional signatures to you?

( Why wouldn't that be possible? It certainly is with people's powers. )

( And, in that moment, Kate gets the urge to ask something which she's heard in so many variations over the years — asked by everyone from friends to patients:

So, what does mine look like?

... So, that's what it feels like. That invasive, sharp curiosity pricking at the back of her mind, something about oneself which is hidden from them. It's a thoroughly foreign sensation, one that has to be shrugged off before she can reply.
)

Makes sense. Thanks.

What all has been done to stop the Null? Have you ever tried to form a treaty with them, not using one of your own or even having one of you in the vicinity to affect them?

[ She knows it's likely he's stated these things somewhere before, or it's been done, but she hasn't been able to locate that information. She has ideas but if it's been done before, she won't bother. ]

( So.

It's time to ask, isn't it? They're running out of time.
)

Can The Door protect us? ( Kate, you might... want to explain better. ) There a way to use its effects on the Null?

( Y'know, that whole madness stuff. It was pretty damn effective on all of them, after all. )

( She nods. Essentially, yes. Perhaps not in a proactive, aggressive way, but still. It certainly has the ability to do so, even if that was never part of the design. )

Ideally? ( Because even if she thinks this should be possible, she will admit there is a whole lot about programming the Door that's not entirely clear to her. And, you know, it's Hadriel and nothing ever goes right. ) Recognises the people in the city as allies and affects anything else.

( Hm, okay, the best case scenario is off the table, perhaps. At least, in the time left available to them. She's not sure it's worth arguing over the whole emotional signature thing they spoke about at this last minute sort of space they're in. )

Can the effects work as a barrier?

( Essentially. They might have to grit their teeth and deal with the effects if they want to bypass it, but a protected area is important for injured people and those who can't fight at all. )
